Services are for program children, families, and staff, and include providing mental health assessments, group and individual training, education, and consultation regarding children's mental health needs.REPORTING RELATIONSHIP The Mental Health Consultant reports to the Assistant Head Start Director or designee.QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTSTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The following is a list of qualifications for the position, any one of which may be waived by the Board in exercising its prerogative to determine qualifications.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESProvides observation, assessment, and evaluation of program children and/or families related to mental health and social-emotional development as requested by staff and/or families.Facilitates a multidisciplinary team approach that includes families to support mental health and social-emotional development of program children.Provides services in a classroom, office, and/or home setting as needed.Participates in and is responsible for program planning, recording keeping, and reporting as it relates to mental health.Collaborates with community agencies and organizations to ensure mental health services are utilized for program children and families.Provides sufficient and consistent mental health consultation services to program staff as it relates to children and families.Assists in the planning and implementation of Staff Wellness.Organizes workshops and training sessions for parents and staff, as needed, regarding mental health; parent education; or related topics.Participates in the Health Services Advisory Committee.Coordinates required data collection and prepares reports to stakeholders.Ensures onsite mental health support for staff, as requested.Maintains positive relationships with parents, program volunteers, and outside agencies.Develops and maintains working relationships with peers to promote a positive work culture.Maintains confidentiality.Follows all Board and Policy Council policies, state laws and regulations.Provides support to other positions as required.Performs other duties as assigned by the Director.SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:None.REQUIRED EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCEMaster's Degree in Social Work, Counseling, or related fields.Ability to obtain a valid professional license in the State of Michigan (LLMSW/LMSW or LLPC/LPC).Infant Mental Health Endorsement and/or experience, preferred.Early Childhood Education experience and/or training, preferred.Bilingual (English/Spanish), preferred.Two years' experience working with a diverse population, preferred.LANGUAGE SKILLS Ability to read, analyze, and interpret program policies and procedures. Ability to write per program policies and procedures.MATHEMATICAL SKILLSAbility to apply basic mathematical concepts.REASONING ABILITYAbility to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIESAbility to apply knowledge of current research and theory in specific field. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff and the community. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.Knowledge, skill and ability in the use of e-mail, internet, spreadsheets and word-processing.PHYSICAL DEMANDSThe physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
